2nd Year Revision Night

Physicians' Society held it's semesterly revision night to help 2nd years prepare for their upcoming exams. This involved a written practice paper with a review of the paper held by 3rd year students.

Physicians' Society held it's semesterly revision night to help 3rd years prepare for their upcoming exams. This involved a written practice paper with a review of the paper held by fourth year students.

2nd Year OSCE Practice Night

Physicians' Society collaborated with GPSN to present a practice OSCE night for the upcoming 2nd year exams. Tutors from older years gave up their time to tutor the 2nd years, giving them feedback, while younger year students served as mock patients.

It was an exciting night of learning, networking, and most importantly... amazing food! 3 consultant physicians gave presentations on their experiences in their field in order to educate students on the different physician pathways. There were also representatives from RACP (Royal Australasian College of Physicians), who provided tips to students on how to get onto the physician training program, and what they can do at medical school to maximise their chances of becoming a physician.

 

At the end of the night, the new committee of 2019 was announced. 

The Great Debate

The annual Great Debate was back in full force after taking a year break. The night involved a light-hearted debate between 3 surgeons and 3 physicians on a given topic. The debate topic of the year was 'Will physicians or surgeons become replaced by technology first'. The aim of the debate is to provide a fun, interactive way to give students insight into different specialities and opportunities the medical pathway provides.

With the 2nd year semester exams coming up, physicians' society hosted a revision night which included a practice exam written by older year students, and a review session help by 2 third year students. 

Resilient Minds: Mental Health Night 

July 26, 2018

Medical students face a lot of pressure every single day which increases their susceptibility to mental health illnesses. Therefore Physicians' Society collaborated with MSSBU to hold a mental health awareness night, which highlighted the stories of 4 speakers and their mental heath journey within medicine. Speakers explored relevant issues of mental heath in the workplace, and mental health surrounding the LGBTIQ, and how they personally deal with the stresses of the profession and life in general. Students walked away more informed about mental health and how to better their own wellbeing.

Professional Development Breakfast

Bond University Physicians' Society teamed up with Griffith's physician society: IntoMed to hold an informative, networking event. Two renowned physicians shared their career pathways, and spilled some practical tips for students kickstart their career. A continental breakfast was served to fulfil the satisfaction of the crowd. This event provided a great networking opportunity for BOND and griffith students, who seized this opportunity to get to know both the speakers and other students. With full stomachs and inspired minds, the event was a great success.

Careers and Entrepreneurship Night

Bond University Physicians' Society held a careers and entrepreneurship night catered for students who are looking to specialise as physicians or become an entrepreneur. Guest speakers from Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and the UK shared their inspiring stories of life after med school and gave students a glimpse of the different pathways life has to offer. Afterwards, our sponsors: Nitschke Nancarrow held a finance workshop which was designed to help students navigate their finances and teach them how to manage their money in the future as doctors. 

Trivia Night

May 23, 2018

The fun never ends with another round of trivia in Semester 2!!! This event was a fun way to get new first year students socialising with other students, and to get them engaged with our society. In between the 6 rounds of trivia, there were live performances to showcase the hidden musical talents of students; with performances ranging from drumming, guitar and singing. There was even a first year student who amazed and charmed the crowd with her vocal performance, after only being at BOND for one week. Then mini games further intensified the competitive air, with activities testing strength, endurance, and... twerking abilities? Vouchers and freebies were given to everyone who came on the night, however as you all know, there can only be one winner.

Physicians' Society held it's semesterly revision night to help 2nd years prepare for their up coming exams. With the University's recent transition from paper exams to online testing, we tried to alter our exam method to incorporate technology so students could get use to the new system. However with the resources we have, we could only achieve half online half paper tests. We aim to continue to improve our methods for next revision night to give the most authentic exam experience for students.

With exams right around the corner, Physicians' Society held a 3rd year revision night to help students with their exam preparation and to give them an opportunity to gain exposure to exam style questions. Volunteer students from the older years dedicated their personal time to help us write questions for the mock-exam, and ran the review session where students could ask questions. Our sponsors, Nitschke Nancarrow,  gave a presentation about financial management as a future doctor, which inspired students to start thinking about how to better manage their future finances.

Bond Emergency Challenge

After great success last year, Physicians' Society has collaborated with Bond University Surgical Society, Bond Critical Care Interest Group and BUSHFIRE to present the Bond Emergency Challenge. The night aimed push students to their clinical knowledge limit, with brand new intricate cases. The night was based on the annual EMC, where teams tackled 10 different emergency scenarios under the watchful eye of clinical doctors. Doctors judged each team on performance and teamwork, providing feedback and electing the best team. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to brush up on their OSCE skills, and to learn how to save lives during emergency situations. It was a great night of fierce rivalry, perplexing cases, and excitement.

Physicians' Society collaborated with BUSHFIRE to organise a clinical skills night for 2nd and 3rd year students. The event was tailored for the upcoming 3rd year practical summative, however it also allowed 2nd years to gain essential clinical skills and experience for later years. The night provided a fantastic opportunity for  students to learn and master key clinical skills including Cannulation, Imaging and Airway Management.

Physicians' Society held our annual trivia night as a fun social event to engage students from different faculties. The night was buzzing of excitement, competitive spirit and team work, as teams competed head to head in different challenges and games. Even though there was competitive tension between teams, the event nurtured a great social environment where different people mingled together during the food break. The event was a fantastic success and will be held again next year, so stay tuned!

The Physicans' Society has teamed up with GPSN to hold not one, but two OSCE practice nights for the 2nd years. This will allow students to refine their history taking and physical examination skills for their upcoming OSCE exam. In order to cater for the large cohort, the event is being held over two nights to ensure all students have an opportunity to practice. Students from other years are able to volunteer to be an examiner or simulated patient, therefore engaging students from many year levels.

This was a great opportunity for the students to identify gaps in knowledge and do some final prep for their upcoming exams. A night to network with fellow students, registrars and some of the leading physicians on the Gold Coast and obtain a glimpse of the path ahead after medical school. The night encompasses special addresses from a few well-known respectable physicians from the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The specialist will share their inspiring life journey they've travelled so far in medicine and give an insight into some of the exciting cases they have encountered in their speciality. 

 

Bond University Physicians' Society Executive Society for 2018 was announced at the conclusion of the night.

BMC was an exciting new event where fierce rivals battled it out on the relentless grounds of Bond University. Teams of 5 formed to tackle different emergency scenarios, in which they were judged on their performance as a team. The event was a fantastic success and will be held again in 2018.

This was a great opportunity for the students to brush up on their knowledge and do some final prep for their upcoming exams. Physicians' Society Cocktail Night

October 14, 2019

Bond University Physicians' Society held its inaugural Physicians' Cocktail Night. It was an evening of food, drinks and inspiring talks and was a great opportunity to get to know your fellow colleagues as well as network with practicing physicians and the RACP!

The theme of this year's talks was "the Physicians' Pathway" where 3 Physician trainees spoke about their experiences and their journey as they progressed through the program, as well as an RACP representative whospoke about the tips and tricks of joining the program and any changes in the pathway.

At the conclusion of the night, the Bond University Physicians' Society Executive Society for 2020 was announced!

In order to prepare for the upcoming integrated OSCEs, Physsoc and GPSN held an OSCE practice night for 3rd years to allow them to refine their skills in history taking, physical exams and imaging interpretation.

Year 3 Radiology Crash Course

Physsoc held a radiology crash course run by a final year medical student to go through all the "high yield" radiology topics for 3rd year OSCEs and written exams!
 

Careers Night

Physsoc held its annual speakers night to allow students to gain an insight into the lives of some truly inspirational physicians who shared their experiences regarding their career pathways and chosen specialities. It was a truly informative evening with the opportunity for students to network and mingle with fellow colleagues and consultants.

Physsoc held its annual Trivia Night filled with trivia, food and live entertainment! It was an amazing opportunity for first year medical students to get to know their fellow classmates  and make new friends while enjoying some classic trivia questions and games, topped off with a selection of delicious pizza and chicken nuggets!
 

Advanced Radiology Night

This event was aimed at clinical year students and was based on the gaps in knowledge commonly identified in medical students/interns by radiologists. The event was run by an ex-bondie registrar who kindly agreed to run a session on limb x-rays and abdo CTs.

Bond Medical Challenge

The Bond Critical Care Interest Group, Bond University Physician’s Society, BUSHFIRE and Bond University Surgical Society came together to present the Bond Emergency Medicine Challenge for 2019! Based on the annual QLDMSC EMC, students solved 10 challenging emergency simulations and received feedback and support from Doctors regarding their performance and teamwork skills. It was a great opportunity for students to apply their clinical skills and knowledge to clinical cases and learn how to manage emergencies in real life situations.
